Mission- Girl’s Education
This project is to provide support in education for girls, especially to those needy girls whose parents are unable to maintain education costs, are poor and/or from Dalit families who are willing to keep their children in school. We have found that hardly any females are educated in the remote villages of Nepal and girls are forced into marriage in their teens. Life expectancy and under-five child mortality rates are also very high.
Why we have involved in this project and what impact will the project bring to the community?
Nelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” and we also believe that providing education to girls will improve their freedom to make choices, family planning and health conditions will also improve, it is likely they will educate their own children in future, poverty levels will decrease, and it will be easier to educate about other programmes. Nepal Village Foundation (NVF) exists to empower women, it is a universal human right that every child in the world should have access to education and most importantly without our support these girls will never have this opportunity.
How much will cost and how we will implement this?
Our aim is to support girls who are 9 years old or above and this will cost average of £45 per girl /per year. We will be providing all the related course books, stationery, uniforms including shoes, and all the school fees. We have learned that there are about 20 to 25 girls in the most desperate situation who need our support.
We will implement this project through our Nepalese based partner organisation (Hamro Samaj Nepal). There will be a programme facilitator under the organisations supervision who will be responsible to make sure that girls are attending school, making progress in education and providing feedback to stakeholders. Above all, NVF board committee and UK programme manager will be supervising the project to ensure that the project is implemented effectively and efficiently to achieve our targeted goals.
How we are going to fund this project?
The major sources of income to fund this project will come from support by individual donors like you and possibly some grants from institutions plus we will organise a summer BBQ event to improve any budget deficit. The project will start from early next year 2011 and be continuous.
Supporting a girl in her school costs only £45 for the whole year (it’s about £1 per week) so if you would like to support us in this mission then please contact us or set up a standing order from your bank. Further details can be found in our website at www.nvf.org.uk on the support us page.
Nepal Village Foundation genuinely appreciates your support and understands the frustration when you have donated your hard earned money to a charity and it doesn’t get spent efficiently by your chosen project. Therefore we have come up with policy that you can actually visit the projects. We will assist you to organise the trip at reasonable cost but please bear in mind that our intention is to invest your donation in the project thus can not afford to help you towards expenses.
